11th International Day of Yoga 2025

Swami Sivananda our Parameshti Guru, instructed his disciples to “Take Yoga from Door to Door and Shore to Shore” in 1956. Sri Swami Satyananda traveled all over the Indian Subcontinent to asses the need of the society. Based on his observation a Yoga teaching program was developed and propagated from 1963 to 2013. In the early 1980’s Sri Swami Satyananda proclaimed

The celebration of International Day of Yoga in such a magnificent manner over the last one decade has become the fulfilment of the mandate given by Swami Sivananda and the vision that was prophesized by Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati.

Satyananda Yoga Centre, Triplicane dedicates these programs at the lotus feet of our Guru Parampara. Following programs happened under the guidance of SYC in the month of June 2025.


Sri Ramakrishna Math – Vivekananda Higher Secondary School, Mannadi

11th International Day of Yoga Celebrations at Vivekananda Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School, Mannadi, Chennai. Sn Vidya Shakti spoke to the students of the school on the importance of bringing yoga into everyday of life.

Simple introspection on the condition of physical fitness was done and children realized how stiff their bodies were! A guideline based on the capsule yoga or panchanga yoga was recommended for the students.

The session was very well received by all the students and teachers of the school.


Central Drug Testing Labratory – Government of India

A special session for the employees of the Central Drug Testing Labratory, Periamet, Chennai was organized on 21st June at their office campus. Over thirty employees participated in a session conducted by Sn Vidya Shakti (Uma Jeyagopal) a simple schedule of Asanas, Pranayama and yogic relaxation were conducted for them to have an uplifting experience.

All the participants enjoyed the session and made a resolve to become regular with the practice of yoga.


Rotary Club of Madras – Selayur

Two programs were conducted by Jignasu Shankar (Jagadeesan) for members of the vocational training institute that is being conducted by the Rotary Club. Participants were introduced to the simple practices of asanas, breathing and yogic relaxation.

About forty persons participated in the session and benefitted from the practices and were inspired to take to the disciple of yoga.


Geological Survey of India – State Head office, Tamilnadu & Pondicherry

On the request of the Director of Geologoical Survey of India, Ministry of Mines, Government of India, a bootcamp program was conducted for over a month by Smt.Aruna Shyam and Smt.Akilandeswari through the month of June.

Over hundred and twenty staff of then GSI Chennai office participated in the program. In Addition students of National Matriculation School, Kathipara were invited by GSI. Thirty students from the school also joined the classes that were conducted in the GSI office campus in Guindy.

11th International Day of Yoga at Geological Monument, St Thomas Mount, Chennai

A special session was conducted at the Geological monument site at St Thomas Mount in Chennai on 21st June, after participating in the national conference conducted by Ministry, the staff of GSI assembled at the monument and participate in a session addressed by Sn Shivarishi.

An introspective talk followed by guided practices session culminating in a guided meditation was conducted and participants thoroughly enjoyed the session


Sannyasi Shivarishi was invited by Samskrita Bharati and the organisers of the program to inaugurate the Chikitsa Shibiram and address participants on the topic of “Pratyahara for Stress Management”.

Sn Shivarishi addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of pratyahara in the scheme of yoga, explained about the state of pratyahara. The method of applying yoga for the purpose of management of stress was explained.

A guided pratyahara practice was conducted and the program was well received by the participants.
