Sri Swami Sivananda
Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswati was born at Pattamadai, (Tamil Nadu) in 1887. After serving as a medical doctor in Malaya, he renounced his practice to search for his Guru in the foothills of the Himalayas. He settled in the sacred valley of Rishikesh and was initiated into the Dashnami Sannyasa tradition in 1924 by Swami Vishwananda Saraswati.
In subsequent years he wrote hundreds of books and articles on yoga and spirituality to maintain and introduce yogic values in the minds of the general public. His emphasis was on breaking down the barriers which separated the needy from the teachings that could help them, whether this took the form of yoga for health, peace of mind or spiritual aspiration. This ideology continues to guide the work of the Satyananda branch of his lineage.
To this end Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswati toured India extensively, inspiring people to practice yoga and lead a divine life. He founded the Divine Life Society at Rishikesh in 1936, the Sivananda Ayurvedic Pharmacy in 1945, the Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy in 1948 and the Sivananda Eye Hospital in 1957 and attained Maha Samadhi on 14th July 1963.
As a major spiritual voice of not only his time, but forever, Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswati guides thousands of spiritual seekers, disciples and aspirants all over the world.

Sri Swami Satyananda
Sri Swami Satyananda was born in1923 at Almora on the foothills of The Himalayas. At a young age he had the inclination and the opportunity to meet and serve several sadhus, who were on their way to the Himalayas. It had a strong influence in the young Dharmendar!
At the tender age of six, when most people would play with toys, he had a profound spiritual experience. His parents were reassured by many saints about the spiritual potential of their son!
In the life of Sri Swamiji, several spiritual, tantric, yoga Gurus were eager to adopt him and even offered to make him their successors. Sri Swamiji also received guidance into several aspects of spiritual sadhana.
In 1943, at the age of 20 Sri Swamiji met Swami Sivananda at Rishikesh and the rest of his life is history that the whole world knows.
If you wish to actually read about the life and work of Sri Swami Satyananda, you can visit the website of Bihar School of Yoga : https://www.biharyoga.net/
Paramahamsa Swami Niranjanananda
Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati was born in Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh) in 1960. Guided by his guru, Swami Satyananda Saraswati, from birth, at the age of four he came to live with him at the Bihar School of Yoga in Munger where he received training in yogic and spiritual sciences through yoga nidra.
In 1971 he was initiated into Dashnami sannyasa, and thereafter for eleven years he lived overseas, mastering skills in varied areas, acquiring an understanding of different cultures and helping propagate yoga in Europe, Australia, North and South America.
At the behest of his guru, he returned to India in 1983 to guide the activities of Bihar School of Yoga, Sivananda Math and the Yoga Research Foundation at Ganga Darshan. In 1990 he was initiated as a paramahamsa sannyasin and in 1993 anointed spiritual preceptor in succession to Swami Satyananda Saraswati. He established Bihar Yoga Bharati, the first university of yoga, in 1994 and the Yoga Publications Trust in 2000 in Munger. He also initiated a children’s yoga movement, Bal Yoga Mitra Mandal, in 1995. In addition to inspiring the activities at Munger, he travelled extensively to guide seekers around the world.
In 2008 he relinquished the presidency of the Bihar School of Yoga and all institutional responsibilities were handed to the next generation of yoga sevaks. Before his Mahasamadhi in 2009, Sri Swami Satyananda gave Swami Niranjanananda the mandate to explore the sannyasa lifestyle and to revive and expound the classical yoga vidya. Author of many classic books on yoga, tantra and the upanishads, Swami Niranjan is a magnetic source of wisdom on all aspects of yogic philosophy, practice and lifestyle. He ably combines tradition with modernity as he continues to nurture and spread his guru’s mission from his base in Munger town.
In 2017, he was awarded the third highest civilian award of India, the Padma Bhushan, by the President of the Republic of India for meritorious work in yoga.
Swami Satyasangananda Saraswati popularly known as Swami Satsangi, was born in 1953, in the small town of Chandernagore, West Bengal, India. Although from childhood she had a completely modern education and upbringing, she opted for the traditional life of renunciation and sannyasa after she had a series of inner awakenings at an early age, which led her to her guru, Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati. She was initiated into the Dashnami tradition of sannyasa on 6 July 1982 at Ganga Darshan, Munger.
Thereafter she travelled extensively and ceaselessly with Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati on his tours in India and abroad, which gave her immense exposure and contributed to her development into a scholar with deep insight into the yogic and tantric traditions as well as modern sciences and philosophies. A truly inspirational teacher and gifted writer, Swami Satsangi is the author of major texts on yoga and tantra, such as Sri Vijnana Bhairava Tantra: The Ascent, Karma Sannyasa, Light on the Guru and Disciple Relationship and her latest, The Descent, a commentary on Adi Guru Shankaracharya’s famous poem of divine ecstasy, Sri Saundarya Lahari. One of her most acclaimed books, Tattwa Shuddhi: The Tantric Science of Inner Purification, outlines an essential practice for inner experience which she herself developed and presented. Her ability to articulate ancient teachings from yogic, tantric and vedic texts and bring these into a modern context makes Swami Satsangi an ideal teacher to transmit the wisdom of her guru’s teachings.
In 1989 when her guru Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati, ordained by an inner mandate he received in meditation, went to live in seclusion at a remote rural village in Jharkhand known as Rikhia, Swami Satyasangananda was the person who located the place he saw in his vision and negotiated the purchase of the land, which was to become the tapobhoomi of Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati. At that time Rikhia was a poor, nondescript, unknown village in one of India’s poorest states. No roads, no electricity, no phones, no shops, no traffic, no trace of the 21st century, that was the Rikhia she entered in 1989, to prepare for the arrival of her guru.
Since that time Swami Satsangi has dedicated herself to fulfilling her guru’s vision of uplifting the neglected, impoverished and downtrodden villagers in the surrounding areas of the ashram, by implementing the cardinal teachings of Paramguru Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswati: Serve, Love, Give. Her tireless and unceasing efforts, which are carried out under the banner of Sivananda Math, an institution founded by Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati in 1987 at Munger in memory of his guru, have transformed the entire area into a vibrant centre of spirituality where people throng in large numbers for spiritual solace.
On January 1st 2007, she was appointed as the Peethadhishwari of Rikhiapeeth by Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati. Presently she resides at Rikhia, and is dedicated to implementing Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswati’s three precepts of serve, love and give, working tirelessly for the material and spiritual upliftment of the local community, who are the neighbours of her guru. She travels nationally and internationally carrying the light of Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswati’s and Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati’s teachings to all.
Satyananda Yoga Centre – Triplicane, is a sincere attempt of Sannyasi Shiva Rishi formerly known as NKT.M.Jeyagopal to provide an authentic experience and exposure to Sadhana, Seva and Samarpan, as given by Swami Sivananda, presented by Swami Satyananda and preserved and propagated by the luminaries of the Bihar Yoga or the Satyananda Yoga tradition.
In his childhood & during his young years, Sannyasi Shivarishi was very playful, weak in studies, with a distracted & dissipated mind; a notorious boy, pain to teachers & elders. During his youth he developed an interest for unhealthy habits. The spoilt youth felt a transformation happening when Yoga touched his life in 1988.
Much to his surprise, Yoga brought about a universal transformation in him.
Today he is known as Sannyasi Shiva Rishi. He is a disciple of Paramahamsa Niranjanananda Saraswati.
He was initiated into the Jignasu Sannyasa at Ganga Darshan, Bihar School of Yoga on the first day of Navaratri 2009, into Karma Sannyasa on the auspicious day of AKSHAYA TRITIYA in 2012, by Paramahamsa Swami Satyasanganada Saraswati in the sacred grounds of Akhara of Rikhiapeeth.
Had the good fortune of getting trained under some of the greatest masters of modern time, into several disciplines of Yoga. Being such a beneficiary of Yoga, he realized that if he had the exposure to the traditions at a younger age it would have been a greater way to experience youth.
He decided that he would work to create opportunities for young people to have an enjoyable experience of the ancient wisdom of the Vedic Rishis. To bring this ancient wisdom closer to children and youth, that they feel a connect and a meaning of yogic inputs in their life.
SYCT is the culmination of his vision of providing a centre of learning, for those interested in a complete understanding & learning of yoga for spiritual awakening and fulfillment of life purpose to take part in the process of self reflection, refinement, fine tuning of personality; resulting in a readiness for Self Realization.
You can read the following pages to know about the journey that he went through.

The Physical, Mental and Vital dimensions are inter related and interconnected. They rely on one another and also affect each other. They are complimenting to each other and participate in the effort to bring about a feeling of a unified single personality. They are like the three legs of the tripod and if one of them is not set or aligned properly then the picture taken is also improper. If one wishes to have a happy peaceful life, if one aspires to enjoy the beauties of life, if one wishes to set specific achievable goals in life and successfully achieve them then one should ensure that these three part of …
